~ Conil ~

Thanks to its long, wide beaches, Conil de la Frontera offers perfect conditions for kitesurfing. We also have the Salado River, which on days with high tidal coefficients (minimum 90) becomes a natural pool with flat water that is mostly shallow enough to stand in.

WINDS FOR KITESURFING IN CONIL

The beach faces northwest to southeast, so the most suitable winds for practising are those from the west.

-West: The best wind in Conil, on-shore, constant and gentle. On stormy days with strong winds, waves can reach 3 or 4 metres, which are not suitable for beginners but are great fun for jumping.

-South: This wind usually appears in the morning after several days of easterly winds and before changing to westerly. But you have to be an early riser, as it almost never lasts past 1 p.m.

-East: Offshore and gusty wind. If you are in the area, it is best to go to Caños de Meca to practise.

-North: Offshore, cold wind that passes over the village, creating gusts that can leave you stranded when you return to land. The further south you go, the more constant it becomes.

BEACHES AND SEASONS

During the winter season (1 October to 31 May), you can kitesurf on all the beaches in Conil without any restrictions, except for respecting other beach users and using common sense.

During the summer season (1 June to 30 September), kitesurfing is prohibited within the Salado river and on the beaches of Los Bateles, La Fontanilla and Roche. The only place where kitesurfing is permitted at this time of year is on Castilnovo Beach, from the mouth of the Salado River southwards. Even though this area is marked and signposted for water sports, other beach users do not usually pay attention or respect it, so we will have to take extreme precautions not to knock over any distracted swimmers or children playing on the shore. Remember that the beach belongs to everyone and there is no need to perform tricks on the shore itself. Use the marked area to enter the water and return to it only to exit again, keeping far enough away most of the time so as not to endanger other users if a manoeuvre goes wrong.

If we minimise risks and are respectful, kitesurfing in Conil is sure to enjoy a good reputation and we will be able to enjoy its beaches for many years to come!
