~ Valdevaqueros ~
Northwestern end of Los Lances beach, at the foot of the Valdevaqueros dunes. Considered one of the best kitesurf spots in Europe, it combines consistent wind, manageable chop and easy access. The dunes allow spectacular landings and are a reference point for freestyle.
Wind conditions
Works with both westerly (W-SW) and easterly (E-NE). The westerly is a thermal wind that establishes from midday and can reach 20–25 knots in summer. Pure easterly comes in slightly gusty close to shore due to the mountains, but much smoother offshore. If you are lucky enough to catch a smooth easterly (levante asurado), it doesn't get any better: constant wind parallel to the shore and glassy water.
Best season
Westerly dominates in summer (June–September), with wind peaks in the afternoons. Easterly is more frequent in spring and autumn. Tarifa has more than 300 windy days a year — the spot is rideable virtually year-round.
Recommended level
Intermediate to advanced. The wind is strong and gusts near the dunes can catch you off guard. For beginners, better on light-wind days with an instructor. Experienced kiters will find ideal conditions here for freestyle and big air.
Local regulations
Designated kite zone at the northwestern end of the beach, separated from the swimming area. Launching kites outside the designated zone is prohibited. In high season there are lifeguards and zone enforcement — respect the buoy lines and give priority to swimmers.
How to get there
From Tarifa, take the N-340 towards Cádiz. Two parking areas are accessible: exit at km 74 "Punta Paloma", or at km 75.8 for "Valdevaqueros". Both accesses have beach bars and facilities.
